Mess-ionac means "a little source of copper", or also called Miss-ionac. It is located 40 km southeast of Kabul in Afghanistan. Known as the Logar Province. Mes Ionak has the largest copper ore reserves in Afghanistan. It also includes 400 Buddha statues, stupas and ancient Buddhist relics in a 40 hectare (100 acre) monastery complex. Archaeologists have unearthed evidence of Buddhist Dhamma. There is ample evidence that this place has been inhabited by humans for over 5,000 years.

The property of the inhabitants of Mes Ainak was spread over a distant size, and most of the ancient landmarks are in good preserved condition. Archaeologists say that Afghanistan's eagerness to find copper beneath Mes Aynak is destroying the ancient Buddhist site of Mes Aynak instead of protecting it. Archaeologists have unearthed photographs of the ancient Buddhist site and excavated Buddhist relics.

Archaeologists believe that Mess Ainak is a historical heritage site. French archaeologist Philippe Marquis called it "the most important site on the Silk Road." There are various archeological sites in the creek on this Silk Road.
