When Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Fights A Case Against The British Government

Political developments in India were accelerating. All the Congress leaders were released on January 26, 1931. Gandhi taxed Viceroy Lord Irwin Sober on March 5, 1931 and withdrew the law-breaking movement and agreed to attend the Second Round Table Conference. Dr. Ambedkar spent 3-4 days in meetings and interviews and gave a speech at a Jangi Sabha in Paral and explained what he had achieved for the untouchables. After that, the work of the Mumbai Legislature was merged till March 1931.

Meanwhile, Bhaurao Gaikwad and the congregations in Nashik decided to resume the Satyagraha which was postponed on the assurances of Dr. Munje. Dr. Ambedkar went to Nashik on March 14. In a huge public meeting at a large Maharwada in Nashik in the evening, he asked them to maintain discipline in their movement and take precaution to prevent any kind of violence. He returned from there and stayed in Thane on March 16 to prosecute Chirner.

During the Jungle Satyagraha in Thane district, in the village of Chirner on September 25, 1930, during the uprising of the people, the police had to open fire. Mamlatdar and some people died in it. The government filed a case against 47 of them. Ambedkar had taken counsel on behalf of four of the accused. Although Dr. Ambedkar was appointed by the British government to hold a round table conference, he stood in court against the government in the public interest in this case. He began his argument on June 20, 1931. Arguing for about ten hours for two consecutive days, he proved how innocent the accused are. Arguing, he said, "People's rights and freedoms are more important than the stability of the government. This should be taken into account." The trial began on July 2, 1931. 29 accused were sentenced to imprisonment and the rest became accused.

The meeting of Dr. Ambedkar Sevadal was held on 2nd April 1931 at Damodar Hall under the chairmanship of Dr. Ambedkar It was recently renamed as "Samaj Samata Dal". This force was formed at the time of Mahad Satyagraha.

A conference of Dalit leaders was organized on 19th April 1931 at Paral. The conference was attended by all the leaders from Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Madras and Maharashtra. N. Shivraj was the president. Ambedkar had presented a report to the delegates on the work he had done at the Round Table Conference, which he had accepted. The second round table also called for the appointment of untouchable members in the provincial cabinet. Dr. Mehmood used to meet Indian leaders. He met Ambedkar along with DV Pradhan. In his speech, Ambedkar felt that he had not given much thought to the issue of untouchables. Speaking to the Prime Minister after his departure, Ambedkar said, "I do not think this gentleman is a Muslim leader of Uttar Pradesh as he said. I think he is a Bengali leader." Fifteen days later, Roy was arrested.
